Parents – a new visa is coming in 2025

The long-awaited Parent Boost Visa is due to go live later in 2025.

This visa is expected to allow parents whose applications are approved to be issued with a temporary visa valid for 5 years that can be renewed for another 5 years. The details of what conditions need to be met to qualify for this visa and how a parent can apply are still being developed.

There are pathways to residence for Parents under the Parent Category or the Parent Retirement Category.

There has been a recent increase in the amount a sponsor must earn under the Parent Category. We can advise you on what the changes are and the impact on you once we get to understand your situation and how many parents are being sponsored. This is one of the areas where people frequently run into problems as the rules and evidence requirments around a sponsors annual earnings are very specific. Take advice.

Parents can still apply now for a multiple entry Visitor Visa that allows for visits to New Zealand up to 18 months in the coutry over the 3 years visa validity. Parents can only stay for 6 months at one time.

When we have more news on the Parent Boost visa going live and the criteria we will share the information with you in this newsletter.
